10+ year anti-fouling

Coppercoat is a unique bond of copper and biocides locked into a special epoxy resin. The slow release of the copper and biocides gives 10 years or more protection from barnacle and algae growth, without the need for further anti-fouling.

  • Coppercoat prevents barnacles and marine growth, giving a smoother bottom for longer
  • A cleaner bottom gives better performance, saving valuable fuel and reducing engine wear
  • With Coppercoat, the annual cleaning of the old antifouling is eliminated, saving time and money
  • Being an epoxy resin, Coppercoat gives added protection against osmosis in fibre glass boats
  • Coppercoat saves thousands of euros in annual antifouling. (See example below)
  • Coppercoat is environmentally friendly and does not harm sea life

How Much Will I Need?

To determine the quantity of Coppercoat required, calculate the hull area by multiplying the waterline length by the addition of the beam and the draft. Then, depending on the vessel, apply a factor:

For full bodied craft such as motorboats or displacement and full keeled yachts, no factor is applied.

For medium bodied craft, such as large fin and skeg or bilge keeled yachts, multiply by a factor of 0.75.

For light bodied craft, such as fin keeled yachts, multiply by a factor of 0.60.  If the calculation is in feet, multiply the figure by 0.093 to convert to square meters.

Given that Coppercoat has an effective coverage rate of 4 square meters per litre, divide this figure by 4 to determine how many litres are required.

Example 01: A 34ft motorboat, with a 30ft waterline length, a 12ft beam & a 2ft draft; 30 x (12+2) = 420 ft2, x 0.093 = 39.06 m2, / 4 = 9.76 litres required. As Coppercoat is supplied in 1 litre units, 10 litres should be used.

Example 02: A 28ft fin keeled yacht, with a 26ft waterline length, a 11ft beam & a 5ft draft; 26 x (11+5) x 0.6 = 250 ft2, x 0.093 = 23.25 m2, / 4 = 5.81 litres required. As Coppercoat is supplied in 1 litre units, 6 litres should be used.

Look at the savings that can be made over the years from this example for a 10m fin keel sailing boat:

Strip bottom and apply Coppercoat €2500 plus yard costs
Normal antifouling for this year €1472
Lift out and clean annually €250

From year 2, Savings of €800 per year for 8 years = €9,766
